b may be for bratislava, but i give it an A+
i really liked bratislava.
it is one of the most underrated places ive set foot on. when we first arrived at the main train station, ayu remarked that it looked like indonesia because well, its still its its early throes of development. tourism in blava (as it is affectionately called) definitely cant match the standards of neighbouring prague, but trust me, bratislava is all good precisely because you dont have to jostle for space with millions of others.
to be honest, it can be damn boring. i still remember valerie exclaiming to me on facebook that i was better off spending time in another nicer eastern european city. and while reading the lonely planet section on bratislava, it was all of er 5 pages? i even suggested to the rest that if we got REAAAAALLLLLYYYY bored, we can take a bus ride to vienna and back. thats something like 3hrs in all?
and really there wasnt anything to do, after we went to the castle and seen the danube. we even wanted to watch a movie, even it was in slovak. but then, the featured cinema in lonely planet looked like it was on the verge of being pulled down.
so...
we just sat around everywhere. we're like champion sitters. we sat on the edges of the danube in the afternoon, at night, sat in front of the bratislava castle toilet because it was shady and cool and peaceful, and had a marathon sitting competition in this cosy cosy cosy (i really really want my own cafe to look like this) cafe just opposite of our hostel. we sat there on our last day for a good 6hrs straight. eating and drinking almost everything from the menu. it was awfully comfortable. dim lighting with plush sofas you can sink your butt in in the inside, a green quad on the outside, free internet, free guitar to play and tons of fantastic english reading material.
its called next apache. im telling you its so good, you have to go to bratislava just to see it.
so we sat and nuah-ed and ate alot. if you think prague is cheap, bratislava is cheaper than singapore. and the food.
aiyoh the food is seriously good and served up in massive. to our good fortune, we found 2 fantastic slovakian restaurants for meals, prastna brastna (feat. on LP) and no.1 slovak pub. with a name like no.1 slovak pub, you know its going to be an interesting experience. its menu was written in true deadpan slovakian humor and they themed their different dining rooms according to parts of slovakian history.
oh and beer is cheaper than water. ian should know.

Dear Terri, i totally agree with you ^o^
Going to Bratislava is really an insightful experience as one can be enlightened of both the uprising and falling era of the communism, as well as taste the local wisdom of the unique bratislavan (socialism fell apart, democracy is rising high, but the life of the people is still going on as it is, over and over *coughing*).
Last but not least, thanks very much for the enriching views and opinion ;), really learnt a lot from both of you.
