still enamoured by london, edinburgh and dublin (the part on edinburgh)
EDINBURGH: arrived 1stmarch, left 3rdmarch
adam was waiting for both rosh and i as the airport bus pulled into waverley. i was already taken by this city because the bus basically travelled the length of princes street, meaning we got a very very awesome view of the edinburgh castle perched atop the hill. edinburgh looks very much the magical and enchanting city i thought it might be, so i can believe that jk rowling wrote her first book at the elephant house (where we had breakfast!) because from the cafe you can see the castle and there's a very literary feel about the place.
first night's dinner was at the adam's and cuix's place, where they both made for us vegetable curry and seafood horfun. it was GREAT! (despite adam's protests that it wasn't as good as when jo and shuz came to visit.) cuix also treated us to peaches and cream lah! decent dessert. what i'd give for decent dessert right, knowing my bottomless pit of a stomach. they were really too nice, didnt let me wash up too! and the both of them also helped to plan the next day's activity because rosh and i didnt have much time to spare in edinburgh sadly.
so we did the edinburgh castle the next morning, which was super! brings back the harry potter fan in me and all my fascination with wizards and magic. then cuix met us to walk down the royal mile where we sort of stood at the fudge shop overwhelmed by very very very good fresh fudge smells. acty the best part bt hanging out with cuixian (minus adam) was the shopping bit, which she has very nicely and carefully detailed in their blog. highly embarassing. but yes, im a new look convert, because its good, cheap, has student discount and stocks very pretty ballet flats lah! and on top of that student discount. why doesnt cph have newlook! because we kinda allowed ourselves to get lost in newlook and ms selfridges (which was also having a sale), we had to make adam wait for us to get to carlton hill. before, i was pretty insistent on doing arthur's seat, but since the weather was bad that day (excuses!) and i wasnt really into having to climb and climb (chicken.) we chose to head to carlton hill instead. the views were nice as well, and easier on the legs lah. anyway the edinburgh experts both said that if we wanted views, the view from arthur's seat would be about the same anyway. they showed us old college grounds of edinburgh as well, and i felt almost scholarly just walking around. too bad the LTs were locked though.
rosh and i had haggis for dinner that night and i loved it! even though it may contain various intenstinal bits of the sheep, it was still delish. you cant not eat haggis if in scotland really.
and i know adam and cuixian will be monitoring this blog, i've got a tracker! but everything here is the whole truth, no blemish, no flattery, no curry-favors. you both were excellent hosts, going the length to trudge around rainy edinburgh with rosh and i, preparing dinner (i really appreciated that you especially made vegetarian because of rosh), going shopping (hehehehehehehehehe), and showing us the best of edinburgh in the little time that we had.
