otherwise, it was a good weekend!

hide's 22nd birthday:
friday was hide's birthday and we had him and some of his jap friends over for dinner, where we cooked okonomiyaki (japanese pancake) for them. exactly, a bunch of singaporeans cooking japanese for japanese. but we had akane to supervise us even though she also knew next to nothing about okonomiyaki cooking. everything was rather haphazard, the original batter was too thin, so we just anyhow added more flour to thicken it, we didnt have the right kind of bonito and okonomiyaki sauce because hide bought the wrong ones... still, the japs thumbed-up our version of their pancake and that was pretty cool. and hide said that he'd never had a birthday celebrated by people other than his family lah! so he was really touched and it made the effort all worth while.

hide's very very pretty danish birthday cake. made single handedly by the very capable akane. actually, making the cake wasnt very difficult, whip the custard, whip the cream, use a premade cake layer, slice some strawberries... but then she just did it with alot of flair. i think i cannot.

lishan's visit:
sam's friend, lishan, was in town over the weekend and besides alot of eating (she taught us a new idiot-proof salmon recipe!), and the same copenhagen in 2 days tour, we also brought her to lousiana museum for modern art, which is a 30min ride out of copenhagen, at the seaside town of humlebaek. (anyone who's been to cph for more than 2 days, knows that after 2 days, copenhagen will get rather boring and everyone will just end up nuah-ing in the appartment.) it was solid solid weather, i couldnt ask for more gorgeous sky! i mean just look at this:
the sky and the grass!
the sand and the sea, and the sound of the crashing waves! the wind was damn shiok lah! finally, so much of sun after such a long long time.
and lishan's indoctrination into the danish lifestyle is complete, with her hotdog.
anyway, the lousiana museum itself is spectacular, not only because it overlooks the oresund (the sea btn denmark and sweden), and sits on a very pretty grassy piece of land with scattered statues, it's huge on natural lighting, lots of glass panels, very scandinavian woody panelling designs, and is flat (single storey) and sprawling. which gives you alot of breathing space and you dont feel too stuffy and bored walking around and around all the art exhibits until you want to puke. i dont know cubism from my impressionism, but i do appreciate museums whose architecture and interior design helps to enhance the entire museum going experience.
