a frolic in the park
we all suspect that summer has surprised copenhagen already and spring has slunk away quietly. honestly, daylight savings is over (since sunday), the sun now sets at 7pm (just like when i first arrived in denmark) and the sun is flexing its shining power. back in singapore, i might i think im plain stupid if i speak of the sun with so much love, but ohhboy, u just gotta love the sun when it arrives this side of the world.
ive been visiting kongens have (king's garden) for 2 days in a row just to bask in the sun. bask. like sit and do nothing, just feeling the heat of the sun penetrate your skin and nuah. i even wore shorts today for the first time in denmark because my legs havent seen the light of day since i dont know when. pasty white chicken-breast colour type of legs. yesterday, i brought my lord of the rings ( i am finally actually reading LOTR. FINALLY!) and a box of raspberries (enjoy life ok) and picked a nice spot to picnic. i think spot-picking is pretty much an art in scandinavia, although the people here dont really care whether the grass is 'clean' or not. you should look at them roll, literally roll, in grass. bye bye hygiene. but i dont blame them. you gotta maximise the sun when it comes out. just like what sonia said, the academic calendar in these parts ought to be that school ends when the sun first comes out and school starts when the first rain begins to fall. thats sensible. i mean, how in the world am i supposed to study for summer exams with weather as g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s as this?! anyway, after watching loads of people jog past me yesterday while i was sitting at the lake in front of my appartment, i felt really lousy and unhealthy.
so, i decided to get a frisbee.
i know its not sporting equipment per se, and my mom is just gonna roll her eyes at her unhealthy daughter's lame attempt to get healthy, but at least ive got something to do in the sun. im so good at rationalising. but it was fun today, save for the part when ana threw the frisbee and it hit an old lady's plastic bag and made her really pissed. she could only speak danish, so she scolded me in danish. my understanding of danish is limited to buying coffee and chocolate cake, so i wasnt catching anything. and she kept on talking about some 'blomster' and finally revealed the contents of her plastic bag.
it was a bouquet of flowers.
:P my bad.
anyway pictures from the day out today. so that my parents know what im doing in copenhagen on a daily basis from now.
