the big great cookout day (or the first of many more to come)

yes, for both lunch and dinner, it was a mass cooking session!

lunch: after service, i got back and anna arrived to start cooking her curry. see, anna is from austria but cooks indian curry most of the time because she's vegan and well, i guess likes curry chap-chye. so she brought out her coconut milk, some curry power and zuchini. i on the other hand, empowered by yesterday's success at the black pepper chicken and rice, decided to cook that again. and sam arrived, armed with his vegetables and mushrooms.

ive never had a more satisfying meal in copenhagen (save for krogs, which is undoubtably the creme de la creme and which i will never bring myself to step back inside there without my parents). 3 three course lunch at my place. the curry turned out to be fabulously good. creamy and rich, and i didnt know that zuchini simmered for a long time could be so good. ditto the carrots and onions. back home, i would painstakingly pick out every. single. itty. piece. of carrot or onion lurking around in my food. here, everything goes into the mouth. so soya sauce can really work wonders. time to invest in soya.

dinner: met up with akari and cuili on the way to aimee's place. akari made tamago dashi. tamago dashi. in my growing up years, tamago sushi belonged to the category of foods labeled 'sushi for beginners' along with kappa maki and california maki. but this freshly made tamago (in the true japanese style of layering the omelette) was absolutely astounding, so much so that i cant really begin to explain how longingly i looked and took in the smells. akari's secret weapons? kombu and dashi, which her parents sent from kyushu. the next dish was a chicken noodle dish, that turned out to be pretty good thanks to mystery spices (according to aimee). and finally, the crepes. homemade crepes man! aye-seh. im definitely going to try my hand at doing crepes next weekend. even if i have to made and eat every one. so it was plain crepes and apple mash sprinkled with cinnamon. im so inspired by aimee's little handy receipe book, i might just bake a cake one day.

me, bake a cake. the things you're inclined to do when the weather gets tangibly colder, days get shorter and much wetter and you're cooped up at home.

plus, i need a bike very very soon.
